Importing the SL Avatar into Blender

First we need to bring the SL Avatar into Blender.
  • Obtain the SL Avatar from here. For the purposes of this tutorial, I will be using “SL_avatar_OBJ.obj” (which has a built-in UV map for each body part).
  • Start Blender and delete the default cube, light and camera (select each by right-clicking and press ‘x’ to delete)

Import the SL Avatar as follows:

  • File -> Import -> Wavefront (obj) -> (select ‘SL_avatar_OBJ.obj’) (no need to change the default options)
  • The imported Avatar will be quite small. Zoom in (using the mouse wheel)
  • Change to front view (‘1’ on numeric keypad)
  • Center the figure (delete key on keypad)
  • I normally would resize the AV at this point (‘s’ for scale)
