Adding TexturesNo skirt panel will be complete without a texture (unless, of course, you want a wooden skirt!). Texturing is a very important part of making successful and great-looking prim clothes. Keep in mind that the prim flexible properties only add partially to the overall look & feel of prim clothes. With proper texturing one can add colors and patterns, give the illusion of folds and wrinkles and add transparencies (either in-world or as a true alpha channel). A good texture is an important part of what separates a nice skirt from a great skirt. You will be limited only by your imagination and your proficiency with your graphics program. Let’s now complete the skirt panel by adding a texture. In the class material is a texture named ‘Example Flex Skirt Panel Texture’ (right-click -> save link as ... to get it from here) . You can either use this texture, or use your own texture if you have one ready.
You will also see a box labeled ‘color’ in the ‘Texture’ Tab. If your texture already contains color information, leave this box white. Here is a tip: Consider making textures to be neutral in color (light gray, cream-colored or white) and then add color in-world. Making many colors of the same texture using Photoshop can be quite expensive as it involves multiple uploads (at L$10 each). An advantage of adding color in-world is therefore that you can save many L$’s in upload costs. The skirt panel is now completed. Take the skirt panel into your inventory. If you have not followed along to make the skirt panel, then there is one supplied in the Class Material (it is named ‘Example Skirt Panel – long’). |
